Job Description

Hiring range is negotiable between $42,495 and $55,239 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience. The Travel & Tourism Specialist will oversee the day-to-day operations of our Visitors Center, assist visitors and potential visitors, and help craft unforgettable experiences in Goldsboro-Wayne County. The ideal candidate will be passionate about hospitality, tourism, and creating a welcoming destination for visitors from a diverse range of backgrounds. The ideal employee must be extremely detail oriented and have the ability to meet deadlines, manage, and prioritize multiple projects at once, while prioritizing and maintaining exceptional levels of customer service. Work in this position requires the use of sound professional judgment, initiative, tact, and diplomacy. Public contact is frequent and includes a variety of local government, educational, medical, and tourism-related and affiliated businesses, community stakeholders, vendors, residents, and visitors. Job performance evaluations include the successful completion of tasks in a timely manner and ensuring that the end-products support our overall brand strategy and marketing objectives. The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Responsible for greeting and assisting guests at our Visitors Center in person and by phone, as well as potential visitors who reach out for information through our website Responsible for processing visitor information requests Monitors business/hotel listings across several platforms to ensure information is up to date and accurate. Performs accounting and budget monitoring functions for the department including processing invoices, purchase orders, P-Card Statements, and may be asked to assist with the annual budget. Purchases and maintains inventory of Office/Operational Supplies Coordinates SJAFB tours, meets and greets tour before their departure, provides visitors guides and recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Plans and coordinates quarterly Familiarization tours for new hotel employees by arranging transportation through Park and Recreation, coordinating attraction stops, and welcoming hoteliers as they board the bus. Processes payroll for the department; verifies timesheets and leave records. Serves as Secretary to WCTDA and prepares all packets for board meetings, helps with agenda, makes meeting arrangements and transcribes minutes. Oversee all office operations and support (including maintenance, IT, supply/delivery orders and work orders) Oversee the inventory for the Travel & Tourism Merchandise and promotional items. Fulfills and mails all orders. Attends committee, planning, and various other meetings in Director's absence. Works with area hotels for distribution of welcome signs, guides, calendars, and promotional material for their guests. Prepares a variety of scheduled and special reports for senior management and various government agencies. Drafts and composes correspondence and technical reports; reviews and verifies records and reports for correct information; identifies potential inconsistencies and resolves discrepancies. Handles confidential or sensitive information in an appropriate manner. Serves as assistant to the Executive Director. Prepares special reports and assists with special projects as directed by the Executive Director. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of modern office procedures and related office information technology equipment, software, and peripherals. Knowledge of City ordinances, procedures and practices related to area of assignment and of the organization's administrative, personnel and purchasing procedures. Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws. Knowledge of statistics and analytical report writing. Knowledge of state and federal laws reporting procedures. Skill in the use of information technology equipment and associated software products such as word processing, spreadsheets and data bases used in area of work assignment including the development of forms, form letters, tables, spreadsheets, data bases, etc. to compile records and generate reports. Skill in communicating effectively and in conducting the department's business in person and by telephone. Ability to work independently on responsible administrative support tasks, some of which may be confidential or sensitive; ability to independently prepare meeting agendas and confidential correspondence. Ability to gather and give comprehensive information and instructions, based on program knowledge and independent research. Ability to communicate technical knowledge of program operations and organizational programs. Ability to be tactful and courteous while being persuasive and confident on City business. Ability to compile information based on general instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Graduation or GED equivalent. Five years of administrative support or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Must have the ability to obtain any other certifications and/or licenses required for assigned position. Some evening and weekend work required Out of town travel may also be required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, dexterity and full range of motion. The following additional physical abilities are also required: climbing, crouching, kneeling, manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

The work is generally performed in an office environment and involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences or commercial vehicles. Use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals are minimally required.
