Job Description:
Job Duties:
Administer and coordinate all activities of the Wildlife Management Section including: the identification of, and approval of Section objectives and goals as well as employee performance objectives and goals. Provide direct supervision to Management Section District Managers. Direct and coordinate planning activities including external compliance review of Section related activities as they relate to Federal Aid Program participation. Administer and coordinate the management of all State Wildlife Management Areas currently numbering 281 areas totaling 184,435 acres of land and water, as well as all District Offices and Area Field Headquarters. Coordinate, approve and administer area related contractual services, agricultural leases, easements, cooperative agreements, federal farm program requirements, project requisitions and similar land management documentation. Direct the performance of land reconnaissance on potential acquisition sites on a state-wide basis. Identify and coordinate land management policy needs on a state-wide basis. Administer the regulatory functions of the division relating to controlled shooting areas, game farms, scientific collection, special occasions, falconry and dog trials, as well as general WMA regulations. Coordinate on a state wide basis all management services related to wildlife surveys and inventories, the depredation program, the big game program, and wildlife propagation projects. Prepare Sections budget request and monitor expenditures. Provide interagency coordination on state-wide basis on technical services related to inventories, the mapping of species occurrence and desired monitoring. Requirements /
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in an area related to division functions plus five years related experience OR a Masters degree in an area related to division functions plus three years experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles, goals and objectives; wildlife species life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, budgeting processes and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to wildlife. Ability to communicate effectively; set and articulate clear goals and objectives; evaluate and analyze wildlife research needs and develop and implement recommendations for improvement; supervise the work of others; maintain effective working relationships with federal, state and local officials, other agency personnel and the public.
