Description:
SUMMARY The Business Office Admissions Clerk assist with the maintenance of complete and accurate bookkeeping and office records and to ensure their availability at all times. This position also provides patient registration, admissions support, customer service, and administrative assistance to support efficient hospital operations. This position complies with department and organization-wide policies, RHC and Critical Access Hospital (CAH) requirements, Safety, and Infection Control, and all Federal and State of Nebraska regulations related to the performance of Webster County Community Hospital (WCCH) operations and requirements of the compliance program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sort and deliver mail to appropriate departments and individuals. Collect, count, and deposit funds into bank accounts. Communicate with patients and families regarding accounts, payments, and balances due. Record patient admissions, discharges, and outpatient procedures for statistical purposes. Prepare Length of Stay averages for auditing purposes. Answer telephones promptly, direct calls, and take messages as needed. Demonstrate the ability to work and act independently. Participate in monthly employee activities. Operate office equipment, including copiers, postage meters, and fax machines. Obtain patient signatures (electronically or on paper) for inpatient and outpatient admissions and secure the Important Message from Medicare signature every two days as required. Enter patient information accurately to avoid costly delays in the payment process. Verify insurance information and ensure scanned records are current and accurate. Obtain prior authorizations for exams and procedures through appropriate insurance carriers. Issue Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) when appropriate. Register patients and obtain required information utilizing the Healthland Scheduler system. Lock office areas prior to leaving for the day. Greet family members and visitors and notify appropriate staff of their presence. Review patient orders for timeliness and ensure appropriate physician signatures are obtained. Demonstrate prudent use of hospital resources and maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information. Assist with medical staff credentialing activities, including maintaining provider credential files, tracking license and certification expirations, coordinating reappointment documentation, and supporting compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Bookkeeping and typing experience preferred. Computer proficiency required. Previous healthcare experience preferred.
