TBDThe Structured Oral Interview will be before a panel and contain questions that assess technical knowledge, experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position.

A total score will be computed using weighted scores on all testing components. Applicants must receive a passing score on the oral examination to be placed on the year-long eligibility list. The top 3 ranks (scores) on the eligibility list are eligible for the hiring interview for each vacancy in this classification within the life of the list.
BASIC POSITION
FUNCTIONUnder general supervision, to do a wide variety of clerical work of average difficulty, some of which involves the use of a computer; to do related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis is the fully qualified, experienced working level. Positions in this class are filled by advancement from the lower level class of Clerk Typist, or when filled from outside the classified service, require prior clerical experience. An Intermediate Clerk Typist works under general supervision, and within a framework of established procedures, is expected to perform a wide variety of computer and general clerical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. Adequate performance at this level requires a knowledge of departmental procedures and precedents, and the ability to choose among a number of alternatives in solving problems. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall results, and mistakes may often be evident only from complaints or from the presence of substantial inaccuracies in departmental records. Employees in this class may have frequent contact with students, teachers and the public, answering a variety of procedural questions or giving out information from established departmental records.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Does a wide variety of clerical work, including such tasks as typing, checking, proofreading, filing, recording information on records, data entry, compiling information for and making reports and summaries;Answers telephone and waits on public counter;Maintains files and records, personally collecting required information;Types rough and final copy from a dictating machine;Operates office equipment, including calculator, copy machine, and computer; composes simple or routine letters independently;Receives, sorts, and distributes mail;Makes appointments; enrolls and registers new students;Collects absence slips and verifies absences contacting parents when necessary;Posts absences daily and maintains accurate records;Following standardized procedures inputs data for students and student attendance;May do some financial recordkeeping work;Types requisitions, receives, shelves and distributes supplies;Operates a switchboard;May direct and instruct student helpers in the performance of routine clerical and office duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of:
Modern office methods and equipment, including the preparation of business correspondence filing, and standard office equipment operations;The elements of English usage, spelling, grammar and arithmetic.

Ability to: Perform general clerical work of average difficulty with speed and accuracy;Make simple arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy;Understand and carry out oral and written directions;Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work;Type accurately from clear copy at a rate of 45 words per minute;Operate a computer terminal and office equipment.
