Full-Time (40 hours per week) The Village of Carpentersville Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized professional to serve as its Property Officer / Evidence Technician. This position is responsible for the secure collection, storage, tracking, processing, release, and disposal of evidence and property while maintaining strict chain-of-custody requirements. The position supports criminal investigations and prosecutions through evidence management, crime scene response, records maintenance, and courtroom testimony. This is a union position covered by Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter #390. Key Responsibilities Maintain the Department's evidence and property management system. Receive, inventory, store, track, release, and dispose of evidence and recovered property. Process and submit evidence to crime laboratories and courts. Preserve and document chain of custody for all evidence. Maintain digital, photographic, video, and physical evidence files. Respond to crime scenes for evidence collection and processing. Assist with fingerprint processing and other forensic support activities. Conduct evidence audits, inspections, and inventory control activities. Train department personnel on evidence packaging and handling procedures. Prepare reports and testify in court regarding evidence collection, processing, and custody. Perform related duties and special projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Illinois driver's license or ability to obtain. Valid Illinois FOID Card. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years. Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills. Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to effectively use department evidence collection and photography equipment. Knowledge of physical evidence, chain of custody, and the importance of maintaining the integrity of items of evidentiary value. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and peers. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in evidence management, records management, law enforcement support services, inventory control, or related fields. Coursework or training in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, or a related discipline is desirable. The successful candidate must obtain an Evidence Technician Certification within one year of employment. Salary 35.42 - 47.41 Hour Field Police Highest Educational Degree Required High school diploma
