Description of Work Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date. Posting is for one Engineering Technician III position that will serve as project inspector on roadway and structure projects for the Sanford Resident Engineer's Office. Duties include conducting independent moderate to complex inspections, sampling and testing of materials, analysis of engineering related data, and supervision of lower-level Technicians and CEI Personnel. Additional duties include ability to complete daily dairies, sample cards, asphalt reports, NPDES reports, material received forms, survey notes, and monthly estimates. Work may include highway construction surveying and layout. The position requires the ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain. Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing is required. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Selected applicant will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to lift 50lbs and work nights and weekends as required. Safety Toe Shoes Required. •Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.•
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range:
NC11 $45,431 - $79,504 Management prefers applicants with the following: Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups Experience in applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments Minimum Education and Experience Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
