The
NYS HELPS
(Hiring for Emergency Limited placement Program Statewide) is a NYS program that allows civil service agencies to hire qualified permanent employees quickly and without requiring them to take a competitive civil service exam. It was created to help agencies fill critical vacancies by streamlining the appointment process, though candidates must still meet all other minimum qualifications for the job.
Specific duties related to this position include but are not limited to:
Managing confidential student files
Managing former graduate transcripts
Organizing and managing student college applications
Prepare/organize files for incoming freshman and exiting seniors
Uploading student records
Managing student appointments and counselor schedules
Assisting students with working papers
Miscellaneous clerical duties
Preferred:
Competency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
High functioning organizational skills
Ability to form positive relationships with students
Competitive Clerk Typist Civil Service Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing.
NOTE:
Office clerical experience, including typing, may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis.
NOTE:
Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of office terminology procedures, and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to type from clear copy or rough draft at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; neatness, tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff and business people;
Must have excellent phone etiquette skills;
Must have excellent organizational skills;
Must have excellent interpersonal skills;
Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and Outlook
Detail oriented with proven experience in reviewing written info for grammatical and format errors;
Ability to work independently as necessary;
Experience in assisting with the completion of comprehensive reports that are used for internal and external use;
Must be able to maintain confidentiality;
Must be punctual, hardworking, dependable, flexible, patient, and friendly;
Excellent public relations skills, positive attitude
Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and Publisher
A team player/flexible
- extremely organized, sense of humor, able to accept constructive criticism
Able to perform calmly in a busy office setting
Strong work ethic
Ability to work with and enjoys working with High school students
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work well under pressure
