- Full-time Position Overview The Central Office (CO) Technician II performs installation, repair, and testing of all types of central office facilities.
The CO Technician II coordinates day-to-day activities with the Network Operations Manager including, but not limited to, equipment installations, equipment removals, service orders, clearing troubles, and maintaining necessary records. This position must be able to exercise judgment within constraints of accepted principles and practices. Decision-making is made in conjunction with supervisors and management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities CO Installation, Testing & Repair
- 100% Maintains all types of CO equipment including, but not limited to, carrier system equipment, voice mail and associated equipment and assists in the installation, servicing and removal of central office facilities.
Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on CO power supply equipment including but not limited to rectifiers, stand-by generators, generator fuel tanks, batteries, and distribution panels and fuses. Tests, evaluates and maintains performance of all other CO equipment, including customer line equipment, switching and common equipment and trunks. Ties cross-connections needed to establish, modify, or terminate telephone service. Coordinates with connecting companies when necessary, in establishing, maintaining, and removing special circuits. Receives and analyzes trouble reports and corrects troubles when necessary. Installs and maintains broadband data equipment. Performs acceptance testing of manufacturer-installed equipment. Performs related duties such as building and installing support structures for power and cable supplies. Completes and submits all required records for CO and plant equipment. Supports facilities and customer service in answering customer inquiries. Installs and maintains span lines used for subscriber carrier and special access. Other Duties and Responsibilities Maintains a basic level understanding of the Company's products and services in order to potentially assist customers with basic questions regarding products and services. Actively participates in the performance management process which includes goal setting and identifying opportunities to learn, develop and/or improve skills. Proactively follows through on meeting performance objectives and expectations. Cooperates with others to achieve shared objectives. Demonstrates a positive attitude in daily interactions. Encourages positive relationships among the staff and promotes good morale in the workplace. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with personnel from other utilities and governing agencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities . Knowledge of basic AC-DC theory. Knowledge of central office switching equipment, transmission equipment, and digital subscriber carrier. Must understand, and be able to work with, cable color codes. Must be familiar with the National Electric Safety Code as related to telephony. Must have current First Aid and CPR certification or be able to obtain certification within six months in the position. Requires equipment certifications or experience in: (Fujitsu, Calix, Ciena, Multiplexers, DWDM, Fiber Optics, Metaswitch, Juniper, etc.). Must know and follow the Cooperative's policies, guidelines, and procedures. Requires computer skills using MS Office 365. Requires the ability to maintain good working relations with other departments and outside agencies. Excellent customer service skills required. Requires the ability to work under various conditions. Must have time management and organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. Possess strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate initiative and attention to detail, possess the ability to analyze facts, make recommendations, and manage projects independently. Must be able to diagnose and solve problems. Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and work flexible hours including extended hours as required. Must be able to support on-call rotation and respond quickly to tight deadlines during emergencies. Minimum Qualifications 1. Requires a valid Oregon driver's license and the ability to maintain a valid license. 2. Requires at least three years of telecommunications experience working with central office switching and transmission equipment and central office test equipment. Preferred Qualifications 1. Knowledge and understanding of the products and services offered by the company, how they function and what is required to make the service work. 2. Must be familiar with IP and data networking. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, bend and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical effort applied in this job includes: Lifting Manipulating Carrying Keying/typing Work Environment The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of job but may include inclement weather and noise.
