Job Description

  • Disclaimer-if the position is filled after July 1, 2026, then the job opportunity will not be in the classified service
  • The Transportation DMV Technician 1, under general supervision, performs entry level clerical work for the WV Division of Motor Vehicles by reviewing physical and electronic documentation verifying accuracy of information, entering data, providing information, and preparing written correspondence.
Work involves knowledge, interpretation, and the application of motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures. Other duties as required. Pay Grade 7
  • Explains forms, fees, taxes, and any other charges applicable.
  • Process incoming mail, prep documents for entry, processing, and scanning.
  • Scan documents, index, and verify in the records management system.
  • Verify accuracy of information submitted prior to processing.
  • Process credit card payments by telephone or through the web service.
  • Process mail and online work daily, address changes, information requests, renewals, title work and FOIA requests.
  • Enters data into the computer to access previous data and update new file information as appropriate.
  • Assist with office duties related to the administrative functions of the section as necessary.
  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines, motor vehicle law, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations
  • Skills in operating various types of office equipment and computer systems.
  • Ability to type accurately and rapidly and to edit documents
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to comprehend and effectively carry out oral and/or written directions
  • Ability to learn and process multiple types of transactions in the DMV system
  • Ability to conduct research using multiple database or application resources
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION
Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
No experience required.
