The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Residence Life is a strategic campus partner in the Involvement and Belonging area of the Office of Student Life. We house predominantly first-year students in 14 traditional residence halls and 6 apartment communities. In addition to our traditional floors, we have 19 Living Learning Centers and Thematic Communities. Job Summary Center Desk Assistants serve as the first point of contact for residents, parents, and others who need to conduct business at the residence center. This position involves assisting the front desk operations and various administrative tasks to enhance the residential experience. This contact can be done in person, by phone, or by email. Staff respond to what they can and escalate what they cannot. Department-Specific Responsibilities Greets residents, visitors, and staff; assists with inquiries on campus resources, residence hall policies, and community events. Communicates clearly and appropriately with all residents, staff, and guests. Answers center desk phone, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to the appropriate office if unable to answer the question. Sorts, distributes, and manages incoming and outgoing packages and mail for residents including lifting of packages. Maintains accurate records of mail received. Assists students in submitting maintenance requests, work orders, and pest control issues, ensuring prompt communication with the maintenance team or direct supervisor. Performs administrative duties such as maintaining logs, handling paperwork, and assisting with check-in and check-out processes for residents. Utilizes hand-held radios/walkie-talkies for communication within the center. Maintains confidentiality, safety, and security of all residents and staff consistently. Ensures consistent attendance and timely arrival for all scheduled shifts, crucial for students balancing academic responsibilities. Works additional hours during break closings or return early from a break to support reopening efforts, if required. Participates in training and development sessions as determined by the center. Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor, varying between center desks due to the facility and community needs. Qualifications EDUCATION

Working Conditions / Demands The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Positions are continuous year-round. Work Location Bloomington, Indiana This is an in-person position. Advertised Salary $12.25 per hour Work-study eligible position Work Hours Center Desk operations are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Scheduled desk shifts can be any time within the listed hours and are based on staff availability and office needs. Most offices schedule desk staff between 6-20 hours a week based on availability. Occasionally, there are opportunities to work extra hours; not to exceed 29 hours in 1 week. No hourly employee can exceed 29 hours a week total from all jobs worked on-campus. Offices will require availability to work some evenings and weekends, as well as major IU events such as opening and closing days, semester breaks, and Little 500 weekend. Office hours might be changed for holidays, breaks, or emergencies.
