Job Description

The Berkeley Carroll School is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of approximately 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant intellectual community draws students from all over the city, admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value achievement and community. Berkeley Carroll is seeking a Front Desk Receptionist to welcome families, students, teachers and staff to one of our Lower School buildings. This is a full-time, 12-month position on campus that begins on July 7, 2026. This role requires exceptional customer service and organizational skills. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations.
Responsibilities:
From 8:00am-4:30pm, greet, welcome and assist visitors upon arrival Manage phones (answering calls, redirecting calls, taking messages) Assist in the delivery and distribution of all mail/parcels that arrive at the building Communicate between teachers and facilities as needed Be knowledgeable in emergency protocols (fire drills, lockdowns, etc) Greet visitors and provide them with directions, if needed Assist with the check-in of families during large events at the school Organize lost and found items several times per year Order snack for the lower school and after school program Perform other duties as assigned by the
Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations Required Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all members of the school community Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently while maintaining flexibility to support changing school needs High attention to detail and accuracy in managing tasks such as visitor logs, deliveries, and event check-ins Calm and professional under pressure, particularly in managing emergencies or busy school events Ability to navigate a variety of digital tools and software (e.g. email, G-suite, camera software, etc.) Prior experience in a school, educational, or customer service environment preferred Berkeley Carroll is committed to creating an environment that includes a diversity of perspectives and to cultivating an equitable, inclusive learning community in which everyone has the opportunity to experience a sense of belonging. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be offered commensurate with experience and credentials. The salary range for this position is $18-24/hour. This full-time, in-person, non-exempt position begins as soon as possible.
