Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor in the Mayor's office.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
POSITIONCLASSIFICATIONS
The position of Receptionist in the City of Stow is classified by the Stow Municipal Civil Service Commission, is Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.
PURPOSE:
Performs routine clerical work, which involves moderately complex work methods and problems and requires skilled typing and intermediate to advanced software aptitude. Also performs record keeping duties in relation to operating and capital funds dispersed by the Department. Composes, types, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memos, and statistical tabulations requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness. Reviews documents for sufficiency, obtain necessary signatures, and routes as appropriate. Provides information in person or by telephone to other departments and the general public applying significant knowledge of department policy, regulations, and procedures. Answers incoming telephone calls and directs visitors for City Hall. Assists caller withquestions, requests, or complaints. Acts as secretary to the Urban Forestry and the Commission on Inclusion and may transcribe minutes. Inputs data into standard office and department forms; compiles data for various reports. May maintain accurate and current accounting of department expenditures and revenue as back-up to the Supervisor in Mayor's office. May assist various departments in administrative functions including the processing and registering for recreation programs using current software programs. May assist the Planning and Development Department in mailing out notices for Planning Commission and BZA meetings. Assists with computer training and updates on software programs. May assist Recreation Department with programs, sports schedules and other administrative functions as directed by the Supervisor in the Mayor's office. May prepare requisitions as designated by the Supervisor in the Mayor's office. Updates inventory and orders office supplies. Maintains the Digital Sign Board and requests related to board. Notarizes documents as needed. Complies with all City-wide and departmental policies, work rule and procedures. Operates listed office equipment, as required. Regular, reliable, predictable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position. (This is due to the fact that employees work as part of a team, and that there are a limited number of employees available to perform numerous tasks critical to meeting to efficient and effective delivery of statutory services to the public, and/or among whom the responsibilities to perform those numerous tasks can be distributed.) Performs other duties related to those of the position and/or resulting from the needs of the organization. The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

Skilled in all Microsoft products General knowledge of public sector operations Ability to learn new software as needed Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and properly prioritize tasks. Ability to work in stressful situations and/or with frequent interruptions. Skilled in verbal and written communication Ability to always maintain confidentiality Knowledge of departmental regulations and policies Must have graduated from high school or have a GED equivalent. Must have three five to seven (5-7) years working in an administrative role or an equivalent combination of advanced education, training and experience. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Must possess knowledge of business English, punctuation, arithmetic, spelling, and modern office practices and procedures. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's License throughout the term of employment. Must possess and maintain valid Ohio Notary Public certification throughout the term of employment. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effective, both orally and in writing, with City employees and officials and the general public.
PREFERRED
Previous work experience in municipal or county government is preferred but not required.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
: Tools and equipment used in the performance of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: personal computer and word processing and data base software; fax machine and copy machine; calculator; and telephone.
