Job Description

The Receptionist for the Office of Community Life (OCL) provides administrative support to the OCL staff. The Receptionist is directly responsible to the Assistant Director of Community Life (ADCL) and the Directors of Community Life (DCL). The Receptionist is primarily responsible for welcoming and assisting students/guests, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, updating electronic files, keeping complete and accurate records, and maintaining compliance with FERPA regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide administrative support for the OCL staff. Answer phone calls and manage the Community Life inbox and staff calendars. Assist the ADCL with organizing events (room request/scheduling, setup, etc.). Scheduling meetings and student appointments. Sending/receiving mail. Having a working knowledge of connected offices (e.g., Counseling, Title IX, Shepherds, Residence Life, LUPD) and when to direct students to those offices. Organize and maintain the welcoming area (e.g., stock refreshments, organize supplies for staff, etc.). Attend departmental and other official Liberty University meetings as required. Contact and correspond with students and/or parents when warranted and email/document in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Process background checks and records requests. Serves as a Campus Security Authority and Title IX Responsible Employee as outlined by the Clery Act and Title IX policy. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering the University's mission. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience A Bachelor's degree is preferred. A strong working knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, computer and relevant software applications, and customer service principles and practices, and well-developed communication skills are required. Experience in student development or a related field is preferred.
ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB
Communication and Comprehension Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information. Skilled in understanding, speaking, and writing English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow for the professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government, and community customers and associates. Strong work ethic and strong organizational skills. Discretion and the ability to maintain confidential information. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and related software. Demonstrated walk as a committed Christian. A commitment to Liberty University's mission. Problem-Solving Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Physical and Sensory Abilities Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations. Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. Driving Requirements Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
