Job Description
The Lighthouse of Houston is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator. This is a an overnight weekend position for our Veteran Affairs (VA) service contract in Los Angeles, California. The Switchboard Operator must set a good example and constantly demonstrate the Light (LIGHT) Principles of Leadership, Integrity, Growth, Humility and Trust. It is important for individuals to be committed to a continuous learning environment and a champion for change, with a teamwork mentality.
Mission:
To enable and empower people who are blind or low vision to realize their full potential. This position is primarily responsible for responding to and transferring calls for the Veterans Affairs in a timely, courteous, professional and efficient manner. This position must also comply with the VA rules and regulations and federal government compliance requirements.Roles and Responsibilities:
Performs information operator work requiring knowledge of the organizational units and major functions of a large multi-division organization. Answers and places a variety of incoming and complex calls for the Veteran Affairs requiring a high degree of operator involvement. Responsible for placing a variety of special long-distance calls (e.g. conference calls, collect calls, appointment calls) over varied circuits or routings. Answers all emergency calls and alarms. Answers incoming and outgoing calls and ensures the calls are routed to the appropriate person. Provides pertinent information to callers based on questions and concerns. Operates audio, radio, and digital paging systems. Assists customers with any concerns or issues and takes the proactive approach to ensure all customer concerns have been addressed and resolved. Follows all confidentiality rules to preserve data quality and reduce chance for information or compromise. Performs other related job duties as needed.Roles and Responsibilities:

High school diploma or GED equivalent Switchboard Operator, Customer Service or Administrative Assistant Experience preferred. Security clearance credentials preferred. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Must be able to follow all safety rules and regulations established by the client and the customer. Must be able to meet the security clearance requirements for the VA. Must have good customer service skills and be able to remain professional at all times. Good computer skills and able to adapt to different software for completing assignments. Must be able to meet and deal with people from a variety of backgrounds with varying levels of understanding, Must be able to work with confidential documents with sensitive information. Must be able to work under pressure, adapt to fast-paced work conditions and changing client needs. Must have good organizational, attention to detail and time management skills. Must be able to complete required job training in a timely manner. Ability to communicate articulately and comprehend written and verbal communications, Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred, Good multitasking, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to look up pertinent patient/client information using software and programs provided by the organization. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able to perform work under minimal supervision. Able to use multiple work aides to perform job duties ie: M2550 Nortel electronic attendant console, computer, printer, general office supplies, adaptive technology such as ZoomText, Jaws, and other Blind/Low Vision assistive technology aids..
