Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Visitor Management Job Family Clerical Work Shift Mid Shift (United States of America) Summary Operate the switchboard console to route incoming, outgoing, and inter-hospital calls and perform other communications related duties. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Answer and route calls to appropriate person or department Assist patients and employees with placing local and long-distance calls Ensures emergency codes are properly handled and associated groups (Fire Department, Pilots, Rescue Squad, etc.) are coordinated and informed about all situations Maintain all logs Monitor computerized/digital alarm systems and notify appropriate staff to resolve issues or create work order request for equipment Assist outside callers and staff with physician's office telephone numbers Provide services for all on-call personnel, to include supplemental staffing Responsible for paging overhead, notify appropriate staff by email and ensure Emergency Department and Security heard the code Coordinate repairs and changes to the phone system Assist outsiders in locating patients as appropriate Replace patient phones when vendor is unavailable Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Work Experience:
3 years switchboard experience in a major 2000 + line facility preferred 1 year hospital experience or medical terminology preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Computer literacy Ability to handle and diffuse stressful situations (sometimes involving life and death) Ability to remember and follow policies and procedures during times of crisis Excellent customer service skills Ability to type 40 wpm Ability to operate multiple computer software programs simultaneously
Physical Requirements:
