Varies Pay Range $20.80 - $31.20 Are you a calm, customer-focused communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments? Join our Service Response Center team and play a critical role in connecting patients, staff, and the public to essential hospital services. As a Switchboard Operator, you'll be the first point of contact—ensuring every call is handled with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency. This is a dynamic, highly visible role where your multitasking skills and ability to stay composed under pressure truly make a difference. Essential Functions Deliver exceptional customer service by answering calls courteously, identifying needs quickly, and resolving inquiries efficiently. Manage high-volume inbound calls, routing them accurately within the organization. Provide after-hours answering services for internal clinics, gathering and relaying patient information to on-call physicians in accordance with established guidelines. Maintain and update the switchboard database, including phone numbers, pager details, and organizational changes across multiple campuses. Coordinate and update on-call schedules, following up with departments to resolve discrepancies or missing information. Support Pathology services by documenting sensitive after-hours communications and ensuring proper handling and submission of records. Receive and dispatch service requests for departments such as Patient Transportation, Housekeeping, Engineering, Linen, and Clinical Equipment. Monitor and escalate service requests when necessary, ensuring timely resolution in line with departmental procedures. Accurately document interactions and service activities across multiple software systems. Adapt to evolving processes, personnel updates, and operational changes across departments. Perform additional duties as assigned to support Service Response Center operations.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in a direct customer service or consumer-facing role. Proven ability to manage high call volumes and resolve issues in high-pressure situations. Experience in healthcare or medical environments preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Clear, calm, and professional telephone communication skills Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities Basic computer proficiency with the ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute Ability to remain composed and effective in stressful or interrupt-driven environments
Licensure/Certification:
None required Work Environment & Schedule This role operates in a clean, well-lit, and moderately noisy environment with frequent interruptions and time-sensitive demands.
