Job Description

Title Assistant / Title Examiner (Based on Experience) SoDak Title is currently hiring for a full-time position within our Title Department. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Title Assistant or Title Examiner, depending on experience. This role is designed to align with the candidate's skill level, offering opportunities for entry-level support or more advanced title examining responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate title commitments, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining high productivity standards. Key Responsibilities Core Duties (All Experience Levels) Maintain a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and productivity Provide excellent customer service to clients, lenders, and real estate professionals Communicate effectively with team members, customers, and external partners Perform general clerical and administrative tasks including scanning, filing, and data entry Review documents for accuracy and completeness Assist with the preparation of title commitments and related documents Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor Title Assistant Responsibilities (Entry to Intermediate Level) Enter new orders and index documents into the system Daily trips to the Register of Deeds to record documents Review legal documents prior to recording Support Title Examiners in assembling and preparing title work Title Examiner Responsibilities (Intermediate to Advanced Level) In addition to the responsibilities listed above, Title Examiners are expected to perform Title Assistant duties as needed to support workflow and overall team operations. Examine title orders, within company guidelines, to determine ownership and insurability Research and analyze property records, including deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, and other recorded documents Determine chain of title and identify defects or issues Prepare accurate and comprehensive title commitments Identify risks and recommend curative actions Explain title findings, requirements, and exceptions to clients and internal staff Review surveys and legal descriptions, as applicable Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and data entry proficiency) Excellent attention to detail, organization, and proofreading skills Strong communication and customer service abilities Ability to learn new software and processes Valid Driver's license/transportation/car insurance
Experience-Based Considerations:
Entry-level candidates: Title or real estate experience preferred but not required; training provided Experienced candidates: 1+ years in the title industry or related field preferred Advanced candidates: Experience examining title, preparing commitments, and analyzing records strongly preferred Abstractor's Certificate (South Dakota or other state) preferred but not required Work Environment & Benefits Full-time position (Monday-Friday schedule) Competitive compensation based on experience Flexible work environment Health, vision, and retirement benefits Paid time off Why Join Us We offer a supportive and collaborative workplace where employees can grow within the title industry.
