Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors to lead classes in the Adult Special Interest Program at Jefferson County JVS. This program is designed to offer community members the opportunity to explore new skills, hobbies, and career-related interests in a welcoming and supportive environment. In this role, instructors will develop and deliver engaging, hands-on classes that meet the needs of adult learners at varying skill levels. Courses may focus on creative, technical, or trade-based topics, and should provide practical, real-world learning experiences. Instructors play a key role in creating a positive atmosphere that encourages participation, builds confidence, and promotes lifelong learning. This is a contracted position. Classes are offered during the Fall (September-November) and Winter (January-April) terms. Instructors have flexibility in setting their schedules. Classes meet once per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and may run for 4, 5, 6, or 8 weeks. Each class session can be 1, 2, or 3 hours long. Duties Plan and deliver classes that align with adult learning principles and the goals of the JVS Adult Special Interest Program Create engaging, hands-on lessons that allow participants to actively apply new skills Adapt instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of learners and experience levels Maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment Communicate clearly with participants regarding expectations, materials, and progress Provide guidance and support to help learners feel confident and successful Collaborate with program leadership to ensure classes run smoothly and meet enrollment expectations Provide a basic supply list and work within reasonable cost expectations for participants Take attendance and communicate any concerns or needs with program staff Skills Experience or strong knowledge in a specific content area (trade, hobby, technical skill, etc.) Ability to explain concepts clearly and engage adult learners Strong communication and organization skills Ability to create a welcoming and supportive classroom environment Flexibility and willingness to adapt lessons based on participant needs Prior teaching or training experience is helpful but not required Why Join Us?
