JOB SUMMARY

For complete Job duties and to apply to this job, ask an EDD Representative (job order number indicated above). All job duties are closely and directly related to the production of crops and livestock. Perform any combination of the following tasks required in equipment operation, farm work and the production of crops: adjust alignment of pipes ; adjust gates and pipe connections to control water flow; adjust valves to start and/or adjust water flow; adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions; apply medications to cuts and bruises; apply, monitor, and control fertigation (applying fertilizer through irrigation) chemicals applied through irrigation system; dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; evaluate the condition of the crop/weather and adjust harvesting activity based on evaluation; irrigate soil through operation of sprinkler systems which includes but is not limited to adjusting valves to start and/or adjust water flow, using proper material and methods to repair irrigation equipment; loading/unloading trucks; maintain/drive/attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, apply chemicals and harvest crops; maintenance of farm structures and farm grounds; mix specified material or chemicals and dump solutions/powders into irrigation system or sprayer machinery; observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions; operate maintain and repair all components of a sprinkler; operate multiple types of pumps; perform some maintenance and adjustments to implements/tractors/equipment; removal of excess plant growth from farm grounds; remove pipe from fields and place in storage; remove pipe from storage; shovel and pack dirt in low spots or cut trenches to direct water flow; use proper material and methods to repair irrigation equipment. Perform any combination of the following tasks attending to livestock: apply herbicides to noxious, invasive and poisonous plant species on grazing areas; apply medications to cuts and bruises; assist in the maintenance of tools, equipment and handling facilities necessary to production; assist with castration of livestock; assist with the vaccination of livestock by herding into corrals and/or stalls or manually restraining animals; attend to pregnant livestock and newborn offspring (including night checks); brand, tag, clip or otherwise mark young animals for identification purposes; clean and disinfect livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; feed and water and ensure adequate provision of both; guard against predatory animals and from eating poisonous and/or noxious plants; lift and stack bales of hay and sacks of grain and mineral onto a feed truck or wagon; operate and tend equipment. Operate equipment and machinery required to perform job duties indicated in a safe and responsible manner, to maintain equipment and machinery to a standard established by the employer, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes and large game animals, biting insects and extreme temperature, maintain and manage remote housing locations in a safe and responsible manner, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors for haying and supplemental feeding purposes and ATVs for irrigating and the movement of livestock, Workers receive daily supervision and on-site training (1-3 months). No independent operation of farm equipment without supervisor approval and safety check. H-2A General Assurances (guarantees to workers) Housing The employer must provide free housing to all workers who are not reasonably able to return to their residences the same day. Meals The employer must provide either three meals a day to each worker or furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities. If meals are provided, the employer may charge each worker a certain amount per day for the three meals. Transportation 1. After a worker has completed 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer must reimburse the worker for the cost of transportation and subsistence form the place of recruitment to the place or work, if such costs were borne by the worker. 2. The employer must provide free transportation between the employer's housing and the work site for any worker who is provided housing. 3. Upon completion of the work contract, the employer must pay the worker's subsistence and return transportation to the place of recruitment. 4. Special conditions apply when the worker will not be returning to the place of recruitment because of another job. Workers Compensation Insurance The employer must provide workers' compensation insurance where it is required by law. Tools and Supplies The employer must furnish at no cost to the worker all tools and supplies necessary to carry out the work unless it is common practice in the area and occupation for the worker to provide certain items. Three-fourth Guarantee The employer must guarantee to offer each worker employment for at least three-fourths of the workdays in the work contract period and any extensions. If the employer affords less employment, then the employer must pay the amount which the worker would have earned had the worker been employed the guaranteed number of days. Other Conditions 1. The employer must provide the worker a complete statement of hours worked and related earnings on each payday. 2. The employer must pay the worker at least twice monthly or more frequently if it is in the prevailing practice to do so. 3. The employer must provide a copy of a work contract or the job order to each worker. 4. The employer shall comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment - related laws and regulations, including employment-related health and safety laws. 5. No U.S. worker will be rejected for or terminated from employment for other than a lawful-job-related reason and notification of all rejections or terminations shall be made to EDD. 6. Realizar cualquier combinación de las siguientes tareas al atender al ganado: aplicar herbicidas a especies de plantas nocivas, invasoras y venenosas en áreas de pastoreo; aplicar medicamentos a cortes y magulladuras; ayudar en el mantenimiento de herramientas, equipos e instalaciones de manejo necesarias para la producción; ayudar con la castración del ganado; ayudar con la vacunación del ganado arreándolos a corrales y/o establos o sujetándolos manualmente; atender al ganado preñado y a las crías recién nacidas (incluyendo controles nocturnos); marcar, etiquetar, esquilar o marcar de otro modo a los animales jóvenes para fines de identificación; Limpiar y desinfectar corrales, corrales e instalaciones de manejo de ganado; examinar animales para detectar enfermedades y lesiones; alimentar y beber y asegurar una provisión adecuada de ambos; proteger contra animales depredadores y evitar el consumo de plantas venenosas y/o nocivas; levantar y apilar fardos de heno y sacos de grano y minerales en un camión o vagón de alimentación; operar y atender equipo.
