Job Description
Agricultural Equipment Technician Independent Ag Repair Shop | Olivet, South Dakota Full Time | Pay is negotiable and based on your skill set and experience The Opportunity This is a busy independent ag repair shop in southeastern South Dakota that runs almost exclusively on John Deere equipment. Tractors, combines, balers, planters; if a farmer in this area needs it fixed, it comes here. The shop has more work than it can handle right now and is looking to grow the team. This is not a dealership. There is no corporate overhead, no unnecessary procedures, and no pressure to pad a ticket.
The goal is simple:
fix it right, treat the customer well, and get the farmer back in the field. The owner is a farmer and a mechanic himself. He knows what good work looks like and has built a pay structure designed to reward people who produce. This is the right opportunity for someone who: Is tired of the dealership environment and wants to actually help the farmer instead of the company Knows their way around John Deere equipment and can hit the ground running Wants to be paid for what they produce, not just punch a clock Is looking for a long term home where their skills are valued and rewarded Is willing to relocate to a rural area and put down roots Responsibilities Diagnose and repair tractors, combines, balers, planters, and other ag equipment Perform full combine inspections: tear down, assess, replace worn components, and reassemble Diagnose and service air conditioning systems Repair hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and electrical components Work with diagnostic tools and electronic systems on modern equipment Keep equipment and work area clean throughout every job, especially on hydraulic work Track time and document work performed accurately for every job Communicate with the owner when unexpected issues come up or parts are needed Interact professionally with customers when needed Take on a lead role over other technicians as the team grows, if experience supports it Qualifications Three or more years of hands on experience repairing ag or heavy equipment Strong working knowledge of John Deere equipment AC certification or solid hands on experience with air conditioning systems Own basic set of hand tools Able to diagnose problems and fix them correctly the first time Self motivated; able to manage your time and stay on task without being micromanaged Detail oriented, especially when working on hydraulic systems or anything that has to stay clean Punctual and reliable John Deere transmission or engine certification is a strong plus Combine specific experience is a strong plus Compensation and Benefits Pay is negotiable and based on your skill set and experience Weekly production bonus up to $200 per week based on billable hours Full time Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 No health insurance at this time; resources available to help find private coverage Relocation candidates welcome Housing available in surrounding communities within 15 to 20 milesPay:
