Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Position Summary This position reports directly to the Swine Farm Manager in the Animal and Dairy Science Department (ADS) and ultimately to the Head of ADS. The principal duties of the position include, but are not limited to, 1) providing day-to-day operational support under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager and Sr. Farm Manager of swine operations. 2) direct involvement in feed preparation, facility maintenance and repairs. 3) equipment operation, maintenance and repair 4) working with faculty and farm staff to ensure that the research, teaching and extension missions are accomplished. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Knowledge of livestock management, animal handling skills, and agronomic practices for growing and harvesting crops required for animal production.
General knowledge in planting and harvesting forage and row crops.
Ability to organize and prioritize work activities.
Experience with equipment, fence repair, and construction Physical Demands Feeding, Maintaining feeding systems and waterers, operating machinery and aid in animals

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Farm Operational/Facilities Support
Perform assigned duties under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager.
Ensures farm operations and facilities are maintained in a manner to ensure the health and safety of animals. Work involves all phases of swine management for a number of animal scientists, research technicians, and graduate students. Percentage of time 30

Safely operate various machinery including tractor, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, and possibly tillage and planting equipment Percentage of time 25
Duties/Responsibilities Research Involvement
Assist faculty, research technicians, and students in collection of research samples and data under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager, Sr. Farm Manager, and Scientists. Percentage of time 10
Duties/Responsibilities Herd Breeding Program
Assists in artificial insemination and management is gilts and sows.
Aids gilts and sows when necessary; process newborn pigs; provides treatment and care for all classes of animals. Percentage of time 5

Comply with all UGA policies including record keeping, timekeeping, etc.
Other duties as assigned within the purpose and scope of the role. Percentage of time 5
