Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians.   • The Upper Mountain Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture.
Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products. Research is conducted on various crops including corn, small grains, pumpkins, Christmas trees and turfgrass. This position will also support animal agricultural production as seasonal demands may require. Major functions of this position are:
  • Routine tasks such as assisting with land preparation, planting, cultivating and harvesting various crops.
  • Operation and basic maintenance of farm equipment.
  • Work may include other duties as assigned.
This position will require some weekend and overtime work depending on station needs.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range:
$31,200 - $49,000 General knowledge of agricultural practices. Ability to operate farm equipment. Ability to properly mix and apply common agricultural chemicals. Ability to use a variety of power and hand tools commonly used in equipment, facility and yard maintenance. Physical ability to perform strenuous manual duties both inside and outside under adverse weather conditions.
