Job Description:
Position Description:
The Faller is a skilled forestry professional responsible for safely and efficiently felling trees in support of forest management, logging, land clearing, and wildfire mitigation operations. This position uses chainsaws, axes, and other field equipment to perform tree felling, limbing, bucking, and related site support activities while adhering to all safety requirements, operational procedures, and environmental standards. Pay starts at $25.00/hour depending on experience
Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • One to two years of relevant field experience required
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the safe use of chainsaws and other forestry or land-clearing tools
  • Knowledge of tree species, cutting techniques, and safe felling practices
  • Ability to assess terrain, site conditions, and environmental factors to plan and execute safe work
  • Understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and standard practices related to forestry, grounds maintenance, and manual labor operations.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles associated with field operations and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work effectively with supervisors, crew members, and the public
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, including pickup trucks and similar work vehicles, as required for the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general scope of work performed in this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all assigned responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned based on operational needs.
  • Attend daily safety meetings and comply with all jobsite safety requirements.
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize tools, equipment, and materials required for field operations.
  • Operate hand tools and field equipment, including shovels, pickaxes, ATVs, trailers, and ATV log skidders, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform mobilization and demobilization activities for assigned worksites and support overall project readiness.
  • Safely fell trees by evaluating site conditions, terrain, weather, tree condition, and fall direction to minimize risk and property damage.
  • Perform limbing, bucking, topping, wedging, and related cutting tasks in accordance with project requirements and safe felling practices.
  • Identify, communicate, and help mitigate hazards related to terrain, weather, overhead obstructions, equipment, and surrounding work conditions.
  • Inspect, clean, fuel, oil, sharpen, maintain, and perform minor repairs on chainsaws and other small equipment.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a field crew, including supporting brush clearing, skidding, and related site preparation activities.
  • Maintain vehicles, trailers, and assigned equipment in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
  • Assist with grounds and site maintenance activities, including debris removal, shallow trenching, seeding, watering, mowing, pruning, raking, and general site cleanup as needed.
  • Perform physically demanding manual labor indoors or outdoors, including lifting heavy objects and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Comply with applicable forestry regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies and procedures.
  • Inspect work areas for hazards and promptly report unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Work extended hours when necessary to meet operational or project demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods. The employee must be able to use chainsaws and other hand tools safely and effectively, maintain constant situational awareness, and perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments. The role regularly requires lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds or more and working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
