Project Manager Arborist

Position:

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager - Arborist with a strong background in wildfire fuels reduction, forest management, arboriculture and tree risk assessments to manage our wildfire fuels reduction work in Contra Costa County. Examples of potential job duties outlined below:

• Provide daily management and oversight of wildfire fuels reduction program in Contra Costa County.
• Perform reviews, inspections, mapping, data entry, reporting, recommendations, oversight and project management of a wildfire risk reduction program.
• Support daily operations of fuels reduction work being performed by hand crews and equipment on public and private lands.
• Provide professional advice and oversight of fuels reduction work that includes hazard tree removals.
• Communication and coordination with landowners, homeowners, public and State/Local agencies.
• Prepare detailed arboriculture reports and plans.
• Evaluate wildfire risks and prepare wildfire risk assessments, fire behavior modeling and wildfire fuels mitigation plans.
• Ability to implement environmental protections, biological opinions, sensitive species protections and natural resource protections for project areas.
• Communication and coordination with biological monitor and other supporting environmental contractors.
• Lead daily safety meetings to cover JSAs and periodic safety training topics.

Minimum Qualifications:

• International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist.
• BS/BA Degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science or closely related discipline.
• Valid Class C driver's license.
• Meet at least one experience requirements below: o Two years (2) of experience in wildfire fuels reduction projects.

Desired Additional Qualifications:

• ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).
• Electric utility (Distribution and Transmission) vegetation management experience.
• Wildfire damaged tree assessment experience.
• Tree assessment arboriculture reports.
• Forest Practice Rules, CDFW, Water Quality laws and permitting experience.
• Strong communication skills with public interactions.
• Fluent in Spanish.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to work alone in outdoor field environment; vehicle and hiking of remote, steep mountainous locations as well as urban/city environments. Walking/hiking on various topography including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep tertian, hills and slopes, exposure to noise, dust, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Exposure to hazardous traffic roadway conditions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; walk, stand, sit and operate motor vehicles for prolonged periods of time; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in performance of daily duties. Cary, push and/pull light to moderate amounts of weight, operate assigned equipment and vehicles, ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public, ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction, operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fire rake, water backpack pump, shovel and traffic cones.

Pay:

$45.00 - $55.00 per hour
