This role focuses on all aspects of tree care, including planting, watering, pruning, hazard assessment, and removals using aerial lift equipment and felling techniques, along with monitoring tree health and implementing pest and disease management practices. Responsibilities also include landscape installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, and seasonal displays, with work involving bed preparation, planting, mulching, irrigation, fertilization, and proactive weed and invasive species control. A strong understanding of plant identification, soil health, and sustainable landscape practices is essential. In addition, the position supports the City's Memorial Program, seasonal decorating, and special projects such as native plantings and restoration efforts. Team members will have opportunities to expand their skills through certifications and training in arboriculture and horticulture. This role also includes cross-functional work across the department, assisting with turf and athletic field maintenance, irrigation systems, concrete work, and operation of light and heavy equipment.
Normal Shift:
Monday to Friday 7:00am-3:30pm (Winter) and 6:00am-2:30pm (Summer) Key Responsibilities Maintain landscapes, including shrubs, perennials, flower displays, mulching, and weed control. Assist with the City's Memorial Program, holiday decorating, and special projects. Assist with Parks projects, including tree installation, pruning, removals, and maintenance. Assist with holiday decorating programs and vegetation management efforts. Interact with City residents regarding tree health, management, and the Memorial Tree Program. Perform routine maintenance of park grounds, landscaping, and public vegetation. Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment required for landscaping and tree care. Operate and perform minor maintenance on vehicles up to and including a Class "B" CDL size vehicle with air brakes. Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks. Follow all City safety standards and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker. High School graduate or GED certificate. One (1) year as a Master Parks Worker or at least seven (7) years of applicable experience with parks maintenance operations which includes at least one (1) year specifically caring for trees and doing tree removal work and operating an aerial lift truck and chainsaw. Must have a Class "B" with air brakes CDL valid in the state of Missouri or obtain one within 120 days of employment. Commercial drivers instruction permit (CDIP) must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Skilled in the operation of light and heavy equipment. Skilled in horticulture/arboricultural applications. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 lbs. Must have an approved license or certification pertaining to the work unit. Why Join Us?
