September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027 This is a full-time, 11-month, 1700-hour program from September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027. Fellows in this position commit to a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, approximately 8AM - 4PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 170-340 of these hours are dedicated to professional development. •Please note : Due to the full-time commitment of the Fellowship, students enrolled in undergraduate courses between Sep 21, 2026 - Aug 13, 2027 will not be eligible to participate in the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship. —— About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship The California Climate Action Corps has over 400 positions available across California for the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—with 170-340 dedicated hours for professional development and training, providing hands-on experience in the climate field. CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion. ——— Applications are accepted May 1 - July 31, 2026, with priority consideration given to applicants who apply and undergo a CCAC info session before June 19. ——— Program Benefits ERE fellows get extensive experience teaching at the elementary level. They also learn how to navigate massive bureaucracy to get things done locally—a valuable experience for anyone seeking a career in sustainability in a corporate or governmental setting. Our principal is an ally in our greening efforts, and therefore, this mini-world is truly our oyster for implementing new greening initiatives. Here, fellows get a chance to formulate, advocate for, and enact solutions to many of the roadblocks confronting campuses in the nationwide push to green our schools. You will also collaborate closely with our mentor, David Newsom, director of the Wild Classroom Project, who is very involved in the local sustainability/native plant/habitat restoration community. As a National Green Ribbon school, we have been recognized for our beautiful, leafy campus, and now, with the help of our CCAC fellows, we are walking the walk, infusing all aspects of our curriculum with environmental education and opportunities for climate stewardship for our diverse student body of over 800. As a Sustainability Education Fellow at ERE, you will get plenty of hands-on education experience, as well as opportunities for advocacy on the local and district levels. We will continue to forge relationships with neighboring schools and serve as a demonstration site for any LAUSD school that wants to step up its food waste diversion and green its campus. This position is for anyone who recognizes the vital importance of empowering the next generation of citizens to be climate stewards. Duties include, but aren't limited to: Spearhead the "Green Eagles" student climate leadership club, equipping students with organizing skills to advance campus sustainability initiatives—such as reducing single-use plastics and expanding food recovery partnerships—and driving measurable climate action within the school community Lead and strengthen food waste diversion initiatives by optimizing on-site sorting systems to increase organic waste capture and collaborating with district and cafeteria staff to expand edible food recovery opportunities Oversee the planting of native vegetation on campus to enhance biodiversity, ecological resilience, and educational opportunities Deliver environmental education for TK-6th grade students in teaching gardens, grounded in the belief that "every garden is a nursery" to promote plant propagation and community distribution while building understanding of healthy ecosystems, wildfire preparedness, and urban greening Facilitate after-school sustainability clubs that deepen student engagement in hands-on climate action, including Native Garden Club, Plant Propagation Club, and Composting Club Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements Live in California by August 14, 2026 Be at least 18 years of age by August 14, 2026 Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate Preferred Qualifications/Skills Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and experience in community outreach, composting, data/quantitative analysis, edible food recovery, engaging with K-12 students, environmental education, environmental justice/equity, event coordination & planning, graphic design, marketing & social media, native plant management, project management, public speaking/facilitation, traditional ecological knowledge, tree planting/care, and volunteer management & engagement. Fluency in Spanish or Tagalog is a plus.

An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills About Eagle Rock Elementary School Eagle Rock Elementary (ERE) serves over 800 students and comprises 3 schools in one - the regular neighborhood school, a Gifted and High Achieving Magnet, and a Highly Gifted Magnet, as well as a Special Education track. Because of these magnets, students come from far and wide and a remarkably diverse array of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
