to be discussed Role Overview The Water Conservation Specialist I is an entry-level professional who supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of district water conservation and demand management programs. The role focuses on routine program support, data tracking, research assistance, outreach coordination, and administrative activities, working under close supervision while building technical and programmatic expertise. The position contributes to long-term water supply reliability through conservation planning, baseline studies, reporting, and operational support. Key Responsibilities Support development and administration of water conservation and demand management programs Assist with water conservation strategic planning, baseline studies, and program evaluations Track program deliverables, compile data, and assist with report preparation Provide administrative and project support to senior conservation staff and program managers Assist with annual reporting, contract development support, and internal approval processes Support outreach and marketing efforts, including development of program materials Coordinate procurement and inventory tracking for conservation outreach materials and programs (e.g., Online Shopping Cart Program) Assist with day-to-day operations and process improvements for conservation programs, including Water Waste Program activities Maintain and update databases used for program tracking and analysis Support public interactions, document customer engagements, and shadow field staff as needed Perform related duties in compliance with District policies, safety requirements, and disaster service obligations
Required Experience Required:
One (1) year of experience administering or implementing water conservation and/or demand management programs Experience may include internships, project-based roles, or closely related environmental or utility program support Directly related experience may substitute for education (1.5 years experience = 1 year education, up to 4 years)
Preferred:
Exposure to water utility, conservation, sustainability, or environmental programs Experience supporting: Data tracking and reporting activities Outreach or public-facing programs Contract tracking or administrative coordination Familiarity with business or commercial sectors such as hotels, facilities management, or HVAC (a plus) Experience working in a regulated or public-sector environment Required Skills Technical Skills Basic knowledge of water conservation and demand management principles Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to learn and use enterprise systems (e.g., Oracle-based and Salesforce-based databases) Data tracking, organization, and basic analysis skills Technical and business writing fundamentals Ability to assist with development of reports, outreach materials, and presentations Willingness and ability to learn applicable regulations, including: Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance California Plumbing Code Storm Water Permit Requirements State water-related executive orders
