Natural Areas Technician Pottawattamie County - 4.4 Council Bluffs, IA Job Details Full-time $25.29 - $27.43 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications CPR Certification First aid Driver's License Bachelor's degree First Aid Certification Full Job Description JOB Responsible for assisting Natural Areas Specialist with development and implementation of land management plans and projects that promote conservation ethics, natural areas appreciation and county parks, facilities and properties, coordination of contractor management work at Mynster Springs property in accordance with Conservation Board policies, state laws and standard conservation practices.

This is a 2-year grant funded position with possibility of future funding.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Generally coordinate and implement daily, weekly, and annual management actions for prescribed fire, invasive weed, woody vegetation, grazing, fencing, and equipment programs, and advise on the management of natural reason Pottawattamie County Conservation Board managed lands; coordinate partnerships of interested individuals and groups to give input and support to the PCCB natural areas programs; assist with development of natural area management plans for all PCCB lands with a focus on the Mynster Springs property.

Maintain accurate work records and reports including time sheets, accident and incident reports, monthly park progress reports, equipment and repair costs, incident reports and user fee records.

Coordinate implementation of management plans including solicitation, selection and implementation of contractor management work at Mynster Springs.

Perform routine maintenance on parks and assigned properties including but not limited to mowing, trimming, pruning and trash removal.

Perform road and trail maintenance duties such as blading, filling holes, controlling erosion, mowing, and snow removal.

Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies and perform minor repairs and maintenance. Operate and perform preventative maintenance on a variety of power tools, equipment and vehicles in the performance of duties including drills, chainsaws, brush cutters, mowers, skid loader, tractors, weed eaters and pickup trucks.

Provide first aid as required in emergency situations. Assist?with the development and presentation of educational programs, projects, and events that promote conservation ethics, and natural resource appreciation.?Perform other duties as directed or as the situation dictates.

Coordinate a phase of a special event as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION A

bachelor's degree of arts or science in Park Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or related field is required.

Must have or obtain certificate of completion of Basic Wildland Firefighting and Fire Behavior (S-130/S-190) within a time frame established by the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board. Must obtain a Pesticide Applicator's License from the State of Iowa within a time frame established by the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board.

Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire and maintain it throughout the course of employment. Must have or obtain CPR and basic first aid certification within a time frame established by the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board.

Incumbent must have the ability to successfully complete the arduous work capacity test as developed for the National Wildfire Coordinating Group.
