Pay Rates:
$26/hour Overview Bank Street Summer Camp uses educational professionals and recreational learning to create developmentally focused programs and experiences that are open to any children entering pre-kindergarten through eighth grade (ages 4 to 13). Each day, campers will participate in specialized activities that explore a range of topics, such as Spanish, theater, or STEAM, led by education professionals. Campers will also swim twice a week and go on weekly field trips. The camp day runs from 8:30 AM
  • 3:15 PM. Camp will run from June 22-July 31, 2026. Orientation will be held on the following dates and times: Wednesday, June 17 (3:00-5:00 PM) Thursday, June 18 (10:00 AM
  • 3:00 PM) Saturday, June 20 Classroom Set-up Day (9:00 AM-4:00 PM) Camp staff hours are 8:00 AM
  • 4:00 PM each day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break daily.
There may be an option to work at After Camp until 6:00 PM. As part of Children's Programs at Bank Street, each camp group is located in its own air-conditioned classroom complete with a variety of developmentally appropriate materials. Campers use the outdoor deck and roof as well as the nearby fields and playgrounds located just half a block away in Riverside Park. Job Summary The Summer Camp Specialist Unit Head is a dual role responsible for two camp groups in the age-based division. The Specialist Unit Head directly supervises counselors and provides support around curriculum development and team dynamics. The Unit Head communicates regularly with families and serves as the point person for any incidents or issues that are escalated by a Head Counselor. The other part of this role requires Specialist Unit Heads to be responsible for planning daily curriculum, supervising daily activities, and facilitating group management. Each Specialist will have an expertise that they are responsible for running daily activities for. The Specialist Unit Head is part of the camp leadership team along with Camp Director, Associate Director, Unit Heads for other divisions, and Camper Support Specialist. The Specialist Unit Head participates in daily leadership meetings and co-leads weekly meetings for camp staff. The Specialist Unit Head is also responsible for holding regular meetings and check-ins with camp counselors.
Responsibilities:
The Specialist Unit Head's responsibilities might include but are not limited to: Supervising two camp groups
  • approximately 25-40 campers and 8 counselors Ensuring camp groups adhere to a daily schedule, including swim 2x/week and weekly field trips.
Stepping in as needed to support individual campers or counselors. Communicating with families primarily through email or phone, but also during pick-up/drop-off as needed. Reporting any incidents or conflicts to Camp Director and Associate Director. In conjunction with the Director & Associate Director, coordinating logistics and itinerary for weekly field trips. Plans daily activities and curriculum. Enforce camp rules and maintain discipline when necessary. Support groups on field trip days and other times outside the building. Prioritize camper's safety inside and outside the building
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree in Education, Social Work or Child Psychology strongly preferred. Previous experience as a Head Teacher or in camp leadership strongly preferred; experience working with children in grades 2-8 preferred. Experience with progressive education or prior experience as working as part of the Bank Street community preferred. Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team. Must attend Camp Staff Orientation before camp begins. Must complete full Bank Street College of Education background check including fingerprinting and health physical before camp begins.
