Job Description

Ranch Hand Chico, CA 95973 $18 an hour - Part-time, Contract $18 an hour - Part-time, Contract Private horse property in Chico is seeking a reliable, part-time Ranch Hand to manage morning horse care and property maintenance Monday through Thursday. This is a contract position for someone who is dependable, physically capable, and comfortable working independently. The person in this role is responsible for the morning routine, including feeding horses, preparing evening feed, cleaning horse areas, maintaining the barn, and keeping the property clean, safe, and well maintained. We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining a high standard of care for both horses and facilities. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, takes initiative, and is comfortable balancing horse care with physical ranch, landscaping, and property responsibilities. Responsibilities Feed horses each morning according to instructions Prepare evening feed Clean stalls, paddocks, and horse areas Keep barn aisles, feed areas, hay storage, and common areas clean and organized Perform weekly landscaping, including mowing, weeding, planting Safely operate, fuel, clean, and perform basic upkeep on property equipment and tools Seasonally weed whack large acreage, assist in clearing pastures, and create burn piles Assist with seasonal property projects, including staining, minor repairs, weed control, and debris removal Monitor and communicate any property, equipment, or horse-related concerns Maintain a high standard of care for both horses and facilities Ideal Experience Prior ranch, landscaping, farm, maintenance, construction, or equipment experience preferred Horse experience helpful, but reliability , work ethic, and comfort with physical outdoor labor are most important Comfortable working independently after training Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established care instructions Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent schedule Reliable transportation required Schedule Monday-Thursday, approximately 8:00 AM-11:00 AM Some flexibility available, with potential for additional hours based on seasonal projects. Compensation $18 per hour Open to discussing on-site horse board as part of the overall arrangement for the right fit.
