Outdoor Production Role Compensation:
$17.20-$18.20, Depending on Experience The Role Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery is seeking dependable Propagators to support plant production and early-stage plant development within the nursery. This role supports nursery production by preparing seeds, cuttings, divisions, and grafts used to grow new plant material. Propagators assist with propagation activities throughout the nursery and help ensure young plants are properly established and maintained. Propagators work closely with the production team to prepare plant material, monitor irrigation needs, and maintain healthy growing conditions for developing plants. What You'll Do Collect seeds and plant cuttings during various seasons and from designated nursery locations Prepare seeds and cuttings for propagation Follow seed cold stratification processes when required Mix and apply fertilizer through the Dosatron system when needed Sow seeds and plant cuttings according to propagation procedures Stick cuttings and support plant propagation activities Place propagated plants in the appropriate nursery locations Monitor irrigation needs for different plant varieties and assist in maintaining proper watering conditions Maintain nursery grounds by keeping work areas clean, organized, and safe Handle nursery stock carefully and ensure plants are watered and placed in appropriate locations Assist other nursery departments and support general nursery operations as needed What You Bring Required Basic understanding of plant handling and propagation techniques Ability to follow planting and propagation procedures Ability to work effectively within a team environment Preferred Experience working in a nursery, greenhouse, or agricultural environment Familiarity with seed propagation, plant cuttings, or plant production processes Work Environment & Expectations This is a physically demanding outdoor production role performed in active nursery environments. Work conditions include varying weather conditions, uneven ground surfaces, and exposure to dust, plant material, soil, moisture, and seasonal allergens. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable.
Physical requirements include:
Extensive walking throughout the nursery during the workday Frequent bending, twisting, turning, stooping, and squatting Working on uneven surfaces including dirt, gravel, plant material, and irrigated areas Use of hands and fingers for grasping plant material and handling propagation trays Lifting 10-30 lbs independently (approximately 80% of the time) Lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally (approximately 10% of the time) using team lift techniques when required Propagation trays may become heavier when soil is wet If you're a team member who takes pride in supporting plant production and maintaining healthy growing conditions, we'd like to speak with you.
