Position Summary The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of irrigation systems for Desert Haven Enterprises at Edwards Air Force Base. Duties include troubleshooting system issues, performing repairs, maintaining irrigation equipment and inventory, completing work orders and reports, and assisting with general grounds maintenance as needed. Key Responsibilities Install, inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and related components, including sprinkler heads, valves, timers, lateral lines, and backflow devices. Perform daily system checks to identify issues and ensure proper irrigation performance. Troubleshoot and complete repairs or replacements of malfunctioning irrigation equipment. Maintain inventory of irrigation parts, tools, and supplies; notify supervisor of needed materials. Complete required reports, inspection forms, work orders, and documentation accurately and on time. Perform hand watering or supplemental watering when irrigation systems are inoperative or during construction activities. Safely operate power equipment, vehicles, and hand tools used in irrigation and grounds maintenance work. Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance or repair needs promptly. Maintain professional working relationships with staff, contractors, and Civil Engineering personnel. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and PPE requirements. Assist with additional grounds maintenance and landscaping duties as assigned. Attend required meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 3 years of experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair Knowledge of irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads, PVC pipe and fittings, valves, timers, and related components Ability to operate trenching machines, digging tools, and other irrigation and landscaping equipment safely and effectively Working knowledge of manual, hydraulic, and automatic irrigation systems Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to pass fingerprint clearance and drug screening Preferred Experience working with individuals with disabilities Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Schedule & Compensation Monday-Friday (On-Site) 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (40 hrs./wk.) (Work hours may vary depending upon the season and related needs associated with the contract) $20.39 per hour for regular irrigation tasks - as determined by the federal prevailing wage determination $32.27 per hour for plumber-related tasks - as determined by the federal prevailing wage determination Benefits Health insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision) Health and welfare benefits of additional $5.09 per hour to be credited toward benefits of employment including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Employees aligned to the federal contract who elect to participate in an insurance plan offered will be required to cover the full cost of said insurance.
