$16.90/HR. Job Duties Attend to live bees to produce honey and maintain colony health through feed/supplements; Find and cage queens, install queen cells; Assemble bee hives, inserts honeycomb of bees into hives; Force bees from hives; Uncap harvested honeycombs and extract honey from honeycombs; Lift boxes of honey or bees; driving farm vehicle to obtain supplies, honey extracting equipment, and misc. tools used to work with honey bees; minor daily and incidental upkeep to equipment, worksite, and colony boxes.
Approximate staggered entry:
6 workers arriving in January, and 6 workers arriving in April. Requirements Three (3) months recent and verifiable experience with references required as a beekeeper. May not have bee, pollen or honey-related allergies. Must be able to obtain a drivers license following hire and obtain clean driving record. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. Exposure to extreme temperatures, extensive pushing or pulling, extensive sitting or walking, frequent stooping or bending over, and repetitive movements are part of the job. Once hired, worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive for an illegal/controlled substance or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Any drug testing will be post hire and at the employer's expense. H-2A General Assurances (guarantees to workers) Housing The employer must provide free housing to all workers who are not reasonably able to return to their residences on the same day. Meals The employer must provide either three meals a day to each worker or furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities. If meals are provided, the employer may charge each worker a certain amount per day for the three meals. Transportation After a worker has completed 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer must reimburse the worker for the cost of transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place or work, if such costs were borne by the worker. The employer must provide free transportation between the employer's housing and the work site for any worker who is provided housing. Upon completion of the work contract, the employer must pay the worker's subsistence and return transportation to the place of recruitment. Special conditions apply when the worker will not be returning to the place of recruitment because of another job. Workers Compensation Insurance The employer must provide workers' compensation insurance where it is required by law. Tools and Supplies The employer must furnish at no cost to the worker all tools and supplies necessary to carry out the work unless it is common practice in the area and occupation for the worker to provide certain items. Three-fourth Guarantee The employer must guarantee to offer each worker employment for at least three-fourths of the workdays in the work contract period and any extensions. If the employer affords less employment, then the employer must pay the amount which the worker would have earned had the worker been employed the guaranteed number of days. Other Conditions The employer must provide the worker with a complete statement of hours worked and related earnings on each payday. The employer must pay the worker at least twice monthly or more frequently if it is in the prevailing practice to do so. The employer must provide a copy of a work contract or the job order to each worker. The employer shall comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment-related laws and regulations, including employment-related health and safety laws. No U.S. worker will be rejected for or terminated from employment for other than a lawful-job-related reason and notification of all rejections or terminations shall be made to EDD. Deberes de Trabajo Cuidar las abejas para producir miel y mantener la salud de la colonia mediante alimentación y suplementos; encontrar y enjaular reinas, instalar celdas reales; ensamblar colmenas, insertar panales con abejas en las colmenas; sacar las abejas de las colmenas; destapar los panales cosechados y extraer la miel; levantar cajas de miel o abejas; conducir vehículos agrícolas para obtener suministros, equipos de extracción de miel y herramientas diversas para trabajar con las abejas; realizar mantenimiento diario y ocasional del equipo, el lugar de trabajo y las colmenas.
Entrada escalonada aproximada:
6 trabajadores en enero y 6 trabajadores en abril. Requisitos Se requieren tres (3) meses de experiencia reciente y verificable como apicultor, con referencias. No debe tener alergias a las abejas, el polen o la miel. Debe obtener una licencia de conducir después de la contratación y mantener un historial de conducción limpio. Debe poder levantar 34 kg (75 libras). El trabajo implica exposición a temperaturas extremas, esfuerzo físico considerable (empujar o tirar), estar sentado o caminando durante largos periodos, agacharse o inclinarse con frecuencia y realizar movimientos repetitivos. Una vez contratado, el trabajador podría ser sometido a una prueba de drogas aleatoria sin costo alguno. Un resultado positivo para una sustancia ilegal/controlada o la negativa a someterse a la prueba puede resultar en la rescisión inmediata del contrato.
