Mozza is an early-stage biotech startup working on two of the most-pressing issues of our time: climate change and animal welfare. We are engineering plants to produce bovine milk proteins, making real dairy without cows. Our dairy-identical, cow-free casein will be used to make indistinguishable products that are cheaper than and have a fraction of the environmental impact of traditional dairy. Our research lab facility is located in downtown Los Angeles and we're actively looking to expand our team. Job Overview We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Greenhouse Technician to assist with daily plant care, maintenance, and sanitation tasks in a controlled greenhouse environment. This is a part-time position ideal for someone with hands-on horticulture experience or interest in plant science and greenhouse operations. Key Responsibilities Plant Care & Maintenance Trim apical buds and selectively prune leaves (removal of oldest/largest leaves) Transplant plants and manage tray organization Water greenhouse crops and monitor fertilizer systems Soak and prepare rockwool media for planting Harvesting & Processing Harvest plants and manage different plant varieties (e.g., transformants, W82) Unshell pods, count seeds, and properly store them Handle plant disposal and material sorting (trash vs. reusable materials) Cleaning & Sanitation Sweep and clean floors, trays, and work areas regularly Remove algae and organic buildup from gutters, pipes, and surfaces Clean and sanitize nursery trays and greenhouse equipment Vacuum and remove plant debris (leaves, waste) General Operations Maintain cleanliness and organization across greenhouse and workspaces Assist with moving plant materials between growth areas Ensure proper handling of materials such as rockwool and plant waste Skills/Qualifications Growing experience combined with horticulture knowledge to support plant development processes Familiarity with greenhouse operations Basic understanding of irrigation systems and water management techniques Mechanical knowledge related to gardening tools and small equipment operation Ability to identify plants accurately and recognize common pests or issues Strong physical stamina for heavy lifting and activity throughout the day Basic math skills for measuring soil amendments or calculating planting layouts Excellent attention to detail combined with a proactive approach to maintenance tasks Prior greenhouse, agriculture, or horticulture experience preferred (not required) Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks with attention to detail Comfortable working in a humid, plant-focused environment Able to lift light to moderate loads and remain active for 3-hour shifts Reliable and consistent attendance Work Schedule Example 3 days per week (e.g., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) 3-hour shifts per day Tasks vary daily (plant care, cleaning, harvesting, and maintenance) What We Offer Part-time schedule Hands-on experience in greenhouse operations Consistent weekly hours Collaborative and focused work environment
