Job Description
HEAD FARMER
Umbel Roots is seeking a year around Head Farmer for an off site property. Our Head Farmer Overall goal and driving force behind farm: This market garden is a constant flowing farm that grows certified organic produce year around. We serve a select few restaurants in a group of corporate restaurants. Think Michelin stared restaurant quality with garnishes, edible flowers, and other special requests for their events department.General Job tasks:
- Succession planning and executing farms list of vegetables, herbs, garnishes, and edible flowers. The owner works with different food outlets and chefs to create list of items they would like to use.
- Assuring weekly harvest and record keeping is up to date for CCOF certification.
- Efficacy of the farm and systems are in place to ensure the best practices.
- Managing staff, hiring, and creating overall farm plans for 2026 and beyond.
- Greenhouse management includes planting, setting water systems and gluing, putting together pvc are all in the scope of work.
- Report to the company's owner any issues, schedule conflicts, mechanical needs, or other supplies needed.
- Currently we have 3 to 4 acres planted but can expand quickly. Having the flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing plan is a key to this position.
- Mowing, weeding, planting, pruning, harvesting, assuring the highest quality arrives to our clients whom own the farm is the most important.
- You As the Head Farmer drive the farm, your compensation is directly tied to the high quality produce, efficiency of the farm and diversity of produce harvested from the farm.
