Job Description

The Agronomy Intern will assist with activities related to the care and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, and equipment under the guidance of the Superintendent(s) and the Agronomy team. This role will provide hands-on experience in turf and grounds maintenance, applying foundational principles to achieve quality standards in course presentation and upkeep.
Essential Functions:
  • Support the implementation of the operating plan in alignment with company policies and procedures to maintain quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist with various turf and grounds maintenance duties, including but not limited to, fertilizing, aerating, and participating in pest management practices as part of a comprehensive turf care program.
  • Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of drainage, irrigation, and water management systems to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.
  • Engage in the planting, fertilizing, and care of turf on the golf course and surrounding grounds.
  • Aid in routine equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance to support the longevity and reliability of tools, machinery, and vehicles.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas, including equipment repair and storage areas, chemical storage, and employee workspaces.
  • Follow safe practices in compliance with state and federal regulations, particularly regarding the storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and fertilizers.
  • Observe and support accurate record-keeping for departmental activities such as maintenance schedules, equipment care, and chemical applications.
  • Participate in team meetings and gain exposure to industry practices through interaction with experienced agronomy professionals.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the golf course and grounds team.
  • During the program length of time, there will be a rotation among the courses outlined in the coinciding training plan.
Knowledge and Skills:
Education:
High school education required, college degree from accredited college or university in Turfgrass Maintenance and/or Soil Sciences preferred or equivalent—degree in process.
Experience:
Working on degree, in a current program, or recently graduated related to turf grass maintenance or related field.
  • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
