Horticulture/Grounds Crew

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates is one of the most-visited historic home sites in the country and a key historic and cultural landmark in southwest Florida. A National Register Historic Site open to the public since 1947, the site contains more than twenty acres of historic buildings and gardens, including the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, their botanical laboratory, and a 15,000 square foot museum.

JOB SUMMARY

General maintenance of grounds and gardens at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. Directed by Horticulture Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Mowing, edging Raking and Cleanup Clean public areas, sweep walks, pick up litter/trash Weeding, bed edging and clean-up Fertilizing plants Planting Mulching Digging Irrigation Shrub and tree trimming Other duties as assigned Assist Garden Shoppe Manager when needed Assist Garden Volunteers when needed Assist Events Department as needed to set up and tear down events

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or GED Physically fit and able to work outside in adverse conditions Experience in landscape maintenance Able to follow verbal or written instructions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb ladder. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public. Regularly exposed to a variety of weather conditions including adverse weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock.
