POSITION TITLE
Gardner
SCHEDULE
Part Time (20-24 hours) Only candidates that apply through www.coumbushospice.com/careers will be considered. Position Goal The Gardener is responsible for maintaining and caring for the flowers, plants, and shrubbery on the grounds. This position also will monitor and assist with the maintenance of outdoor ponds and water features. Position Requirements (not all-inclusive) Prepare plans for seasonal flowers and plantings with an established budget. Plant new flowers, plants, and shrubbery to meet seasonal needs. Fertilize, water, weed, and provide other plant care, as needed. Remove old plantings at end of season and prepare areas for new season. Feed and monitor aquarium and pond fish as well as courtyard wildlife. Monitor pond water levels and condition. Assist with seasonal decorating of building and general beautification/upkeep of outdoor sitting areas. Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice of Georgia and Alabama. Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers. Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job. When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor. Ensure job responsibilities are met, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work. Assist with special projects, as requested. All other job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). One to three months related experience and/or training
Special Qualifications Required:
Must be able to multi-task/coordinate several jobs at one time. Must be able to set priorities to accomplish tasks Must be able to meet deadlines with priority interruptions. Must be able to use good judgment when selecting flowers and plants on a seasonal basis; obtain supplies to meet gardening needs. Must be able to develop seasonal plans and budget. Must be able to drive 4-wheel ATV and use standard gardening tools. Must have Influenza vaccine during influenza season or adhere to policy requirements for declination. (Nov. - Mar.) Must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Must have auto insurance coverage per policy with reliable transportation
Physical Demand Essential Functions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting of materials, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Requires occasional stooping, bending, and lifting over 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision, ability to smell, and hearing to normal range.
Marginal Functions:
May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or climbing stairs. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and outside affiliates.
Accommodation:
Combination working inside and outside of building in different weather conditions. Some travel by car may be required for this position.
Environmental Factors:
May be exposed to chemicals.
