Temporary/Permanent:
Temporary (Casual Hire NTE 89 days) Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Director and staff in properly repairing, maintaining and preserving the Kanewailo'i and Punalu'u loi. Will work independently and with staff to perform given tasks. Assists with events and tours at the lo'i that engages a wide range of audiences and learners from within the university community, as well as, the Native Hawaiian community, public and private schools, organizations, and the community groups. Works weekends Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian studies, Horticulture, Education, Communication, or other related field and experience with responsibilities for Hawaiian plant cultivation and/or working with the Hawaiian community; or equivalent education/training or experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, as well as, establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and visitors. Ability to work in rigorous field environments such as slippery, uneven terrain, including adverse weather conditions. Ability to operate motorized equipment. Proficient with common computer word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications. Possess a current, valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in Hawaii. Availability to work on weekends and/or evenings. Functional knowledge of Hawaiian language, history and culture, especially cultural traditions regarding malama 'aina. Desirable Qualifications Ability to work outdoors. Experience working in a lo'i. Possess knowledge of the history of Kanewai. Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak fluently in the Hawaiian language. Thorough knowledge of kalo identification, cultivation, and propagation techniques.
