About This PositionDrumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking a part-time Livestock Farmhand to help care for and manage the livestock operation and support Drumlin Farms farm-based education programs. In addition, this position assists with planning and executing special projects related to livestock operations and helps direct day-to-day duties of volunteers. This position requires the individual to be flexible with scheduling, including one weekend day and some holidays.

ResponsibilitiesProvide daily care of livestock including feeding and cleaningHelp maintain health of livestock including ordering feed, supporting veterinary care, assisting in birthing of livestock, maintaining animal birth and health recordsAssist in the production and/or sale of farm products including eggs, meat, yarn, soap, and sheepskinsAssist with stocking/organization of supplies and with barn/facilities maintenance including fencing, pens, and livestock equipmentSupport sanctuary ecological management goals by assisting in hay production, manure management, pasture management/rotational grazing, and mobile chicken coopsEngage with volunteers in stewardship of the farm and promotion of Mass Audubon mission; Supervise volunteers during chores when Farm Manager is not presentAssist in maintaining clear communication with educational staff and assisting with the scheduling of program chores and educational interactions with animals when neededHelp to communicate and interpret sustainable farming practices in conversations with the publicAssist with planning and executing special eventsQualificationsAt Mass Audubon, our highest priority is finding the best candidate for the job. Minimum of 2 years of large animal care experience required, specifically cows, sheep, goats, pigs and chickensCapable of operating mechanical equipment such as mowers, tractors, and trucks; valid drivers license requiredAbility to organize and work with volunteers, and to communicate clearly with staff and the publicAbility to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural competence and inclusionHard working, dependable, and open to learning new skillsCPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to get certificationKnowledge of basic carpentry skills helpfulCompensation, Benefits and PerksThis positions pay range is 19.00-20.00/hour; actual rate of pay will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is a year-round position and earns vacation time as well as receives paid holidays.
Work ScheduleThis is a year-round position, approximately 9 hours per week on Saturdays.
Other RequirementsEmployees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
