Responsible for daily and long-term care of the beef and dairy herd including but not limited to feeding, milking, breeding, general animal care, and cleaning. Responsible for working individually and with other farm associates on a daily basis. Responsible for assisting in crop and fieldwork as well as other tasks as necessary. Performance is based upon herd industry performance standards.

Herd Manager and Farm President Qualifications:
  • Experience in the care, milking, feeding, and breeding of cattle
  • Valid driver's license and clean DMV record
  • Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card and pass a drug test
  • Safely drive, operate, and maneuver farm machinery and equipment
  • Knowledge of safety programs and procedures
  • Herd Health Skills
  • AI Breeding Training/Certificate or ability to obtain
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent English communication and math skills required
Essential Functions:
Functions and assigned tasks are to be completed following all applicable Animal Care/NMPF F.A.R.M. standards, guidelines, regulations, and best practices; Failure to comply is grounds for immediate termination.
  • Feed the young stock and milking cows according to feed program
  • Clean and care for the well-being of young stock and milking cows according to daily and weekly cleaning programs
  • Maintain equipment and machinery required for feeding and cleaning program, communicating repairs and maintenance with the Maintenance Manager
  • Assist with herd pictures and records
  • Assist with herd breeding and vaccination, including artificial insemination and pregnancy checks
  • Report any indication of illness, injury, and calving
  • Assist with the treatment of illness and injury and assist with calving
  • Assist in daily operations
  • Assist with general repairs and maintenance of facilities, communicating with Maintenance Manager
  • Assist with forage cropping
  • Pursue continued industry education and training as recommended/required, including networking opportunities
  • Meet with veterinarians, field representatives, nutritionists, and other professionals and consultants as necessary.
  • Participate in milking operations

  • Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and be able to complete the physical demands of the position
Hours:
    Full-Time Hours:
    11am-7pm, five days per week which may include weekends and holidays on rotation.
