GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The foreperson is responsible for year-round animal husbandry, care, and health management of livestock, and a variety of smaller species. This role includes the operation and routine maintenance of farm and industry-related equipment, crop production, and the care and upkeep of animal science facilities. The Foreperson may also assist with student education and instructional activities when scheduled. This position is designated as essential and is required to respond during weather-related and other emergency situations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Perform general duties in the routine care of marine animals, birds, reptiles, small animals,farm livestock, horses, dogs, and other animals. Maintain records for animals. Assist instructors in laboratory classes. Supervise students and part time student farm workers during on-campus work programs and at other times as assigned by a supervisor. Ensure that equipment, materials, systems, tools and products utilized are in safe working order. Observe safe operating and use procedures and practices. Report all safety concerns to the department head or supervisor. Participate in the production of hay and grass, and pasture management. Participate in the maintenance and repairing of agricultural and industrial equipment. Obtain and maintain a Massachusetts Hoisting license. Perform other tasks as assigned which may include assisting other departments in the school.
