Job Description
Farm Apprentice
About the position
We are looking for hard working people with a passion for diversified organic farming to join our team to tend and harvest our crops during the upcoming growing season to fill multiple positions. The farm crew includes 4 - 6 full time people, and goes up to 10 - 12 people in the summer. We are a group of young people who are fun and love what we do.
Over the course of the season, you will get opportunities to see everything from seed to sale including crop planning, field prepping, seeding, transplanting, weeding, cultivating, harvesting, post-harvest handling, storing, transporting, marketing, and delivering. Apprentices will learn by doing, and are expected to work at a good pace in all weather conditions as part of our farm crew. This position is perfect for people who want to get into organic vegetable farming or already have some experience.
Schedule
Main Season:
April 1st - December 1st Normal hours are 8 to 5 with 1-hour unpaid lunch break. During peak of the season, crew members are welcome and encouraged but not required to work up to 60 hours per week.Winter Season:
December 1st - March 31. Winter position is prioritized to people who have multi-season commitment to the farm, and / or are highly skilled and contribute to the farm. The farm can't guarantee 40 hours per week for everyone in the winter. Responsibilities include seed starting, direct seeding and transplanting, cultivating and weeding, irrigating, harvesting and post harvest handling, record keeping, maintaining and using farm equipment, representing the farm at CSA pickup locations and farmers markets.Requirements:
Excellent work ethic - prompt and takes initiative A "can do" attitude and curiosity A great communicator who is able to give and receive feedback to fellow crew members and management Ability to work long hours in inclement weather and stay focused throughout the day, keeping an efficient pace no matter the activity Driver's License and a good driving record.
