Full Job Description Horticultural Specialist City of O'Fallon, Missouri Hourly Pay:
$25.98 Paid CDL training program available The City of O'Fallon is seeking a skilled, motivated Horticultural Specialist to help keep our community beautiful and thriving. Position Summary This position is responsible for supervising and performing the care, maintenance, and installation of landscaping across municipal properties. The Horticultural Specialist plays a key role in ensuring O'Fallon's parks, facilities, and public spaces are healthy, attractive, and welcoming. What You'll Do Perform and oversee horticulture practices including planting, pruning, fertilizing, irrigation, and integrated pest management Prepare and maintain municipal grounds, ensuring vibrant and aesthetically pleasing landscapes Participate in the design, installation, and maintenance of landscape beds Assist with greenhouse operations and plant production Identify plant diseases, insects, and nutrition disorders, implementing effective treatment plans Operate, service, and schedule irrigation systems Train and guide seasonal workers, temporary staff, and volunteers Enforce safety procedures and operate vehicles, tools, and equipment Support festivals, special events, and snow removal operations Provide budget input related to projects, maintenance, and equipment Work irregular hours as needed What You Bring Associate's Degree in horticulture or equivalent education and skills Three to five years of experience in grounds care, greenhouse operations, plant production, fertilizers, pest control, and irrigation systems Supervisory experience and the ability to support and guide others Strong understanding of horticulture, landscape management, equipment operation, and irrigation in the O'Fallon climate Ability to lift heavy objects, work outdoors in varying weather, and use tools requiring dexterity Valid Missouri driver's license (Class A CDL or ability to obtain) Working Environment This role involves indoor and outdoor work, including exposure to weather, noise, dust, and chemicals. Proper safety equipment is provided and required.
