Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic team as a Farrowing Technician, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our swine during the critical farrowing period. This energetic position involves hands-on animal care, monitoring pregnant sows, assisting with delivery, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Your expertise will contribute to producing high-quality livestock while fostering a positive and efficient work environment. We are committed to providing comprehensive training and support to help you succeed in this rewarding role. Pay depends on experience, but experience not necessary, will train. Duties Monitor pregnant sows closely during the farrowing process, ensuring timely assistance when needed Assist with the delivery of piglets, including helping with birth procedures and providing immediate care Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques to minimize stress and injury Conduct routine health checks on sows and piglets, including blood sampling and administering basic treatments Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of farrowing pens and equipment to prevent disease transmission Record detailed data on animal health, birth outcomes, genetics, and other relevant information Support animal husbandry practices such as feeding, watering, and environmental enrichment to promote optimal growth and health Skills Strong background in farming or agriculture with experience in animal handling and husbandry Knowledge of veterinary practices related to swine or other livestock species Ability to perform animal restraint safely and effectively in various situations Mechanical aptitude for operating farm equipment and maintaining sanitation tools Basic math skills for recording data accurately and managing inventory Familiarity with blood sampling techniques and disease prevention protocols Physical strength for heavy lifting, moving supplies, and maintaining a clean workspace Understanding of genetics principles relevant to breeding programs Experience with equine or other large animal handling is a plus but not required This role offers an engaging opportunity to work closely with animals in a fast-paced environment dedicated to excellence in livestock production.
