Candidates must have at least 5 years fine gardening or commensurate management experience. A horticulture, arboriculture, botany or related degree is strongly preferred. Candidates are expected to know current horticulture\fine-gardening, turf, pruning, and IPM best-practices, and have extensive knowledge of annual and perennial herbaceous and woody plant materials. Responsibilities include the care and oversight of the historic four-acre estate, its turf and grounds, extensive formal gardens, fountains, and buildings. Candidates should have a willingness to be trained on job specificities, have good communication and professional skills to work individually with the property owner, and be self-led in the garden. Salary will be paid out bi-weekly equally, distributed throughout the entire year. Winter work includes limited time on site except for seasonal responsibilities such as winter pruning. Responsibilities Experience Previous experience or strong interest in irrigation systems, greenhouse management, or gardening is highly desirable. Familiarity with horticulture principles including plant care, soil health, and landscape design will be beneficial. Hands-on experience with lawn care equipment and landscape maintenance tools is preferred. Knowledge of farming practices or agricultural techniques can enhance your effectiveness in this role. Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely is essential for performing various outdoor tasks efficiently.
