Job Description
The Farm Hand I will perform manual labor activities related to the operation of the farm as directed by the supervisor including but not limited to gardening, building, cleaning / removing brush, mowing, and other operational activities. This position will work primarily outside and activities will change depending on the season. The Farm Hand I may assist their supervisor in other aspects of farm work as assigned. Core Responsibilities May manually plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, fruits, nuts and field crops. Planting seeds according to directions including starter sets, rows. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, and pruning shears. Tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; cleaning, packing, and loading harvested products. Digging holes. Mixing soil & fertilizer and applying mixture appropriately, by hand or with machine. Water plants as needed. Discerning weeds from crop plants and removing weeds; thin crops by removing a portion of plants as directed. Pick, gather, harvest crops as directed and package for market or distribution. Use hand tools and raw materials such as hammers, nails, wood, wire, etc. to build or repair animal coops, fences, and other farm property. Pull and/or cut brush or pick rocks from trails/garden as directed. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. May assist with animal care as needed. Qualifications Must have a desire and interest in outdoor, physical work and a comfort level with animals. Ability to understand and accept direction resulting in satisfactorily completing job tasks with support. Ability to adjust and initiate actions appropriately but with direction and/or supervision.
