Experienced Vegetable Farmer

Happy Compromise Farm + Sanctuary (HCF+S) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community farm and vegan animal sanctuary. We are a small org. doing big things! Job Summary Our community farm is seeking an Experienced Vegetable Farmer who will work closely with our farm manager to seed, transplant, harvest, wash, and pack produce for our Free Farm Stand. Other tasks include soil preparation, weeding and irrigating, as well as some greenhouse and orchard work. The work can be strenuous, especially during the hottest days of the season, but also a lot of fun and always rewarding. We are looking for someone who enjoys physically demanding work outside, working collaboratively, continually learning and innovating, and has a genuine interest in plants and food access.

Overview:

Part-time or full-time - 24 to 30 hours a week, year round, early mornings required $17+ DOE; performance-based raises, paid sick time; free produce, flowers, and plants! Ideally 2+ years of production farming experience Local to the Southern Tier region of NY and able to commute; relocation is not available Required skills: Must have reliable transportation and cellphone Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly and drive t-posts Must be okay working outside in ALL seasons and weather conditions Must be able to follow all instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner Must have strong communication and organizational skills Bonus - loves animals! Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Seeding, planting, trellising, cultivating, harvesting Making and maintaining growing spaces Pruning and orchard maintenance Washing/packing vegetables for farm stand Setting up farm stand Greenhouse start maintenance Farm infrastructure maintenance/repairs Barn cleaning and maintenance HCF+S's work is mission-driven, and we really want to find the right person who embodies our mission and wants to grow with our team.
