Job Description

Breed and raise cows for milk production. Maintain breeding records and inventories of needed supplies for the breeding process. Assist with other duties involving cattle movement and treatment of illness.
Essential Functions:
Select and breed cows according to knowledge of animals, genealogy, characteristics, and offspring desired. Detect and track signs of cows in heat/estrus cycle. Maintain inventory of supplies and semen needed for the breeding process. Maintain and clean equipment and tools necessary for breeding. Maintain written and computer breeding records. Conscientiously adhere to routines as laid out by supervisors. Track pen movements and conduct pen counts. Administer vaccinations. Observe animals for signs of illness and injury and transport to hospital area when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Scope and Accountability:
Incumbent's decisions and actions rarely and minimally impact the company's revenue and operations. Decisions and actions may have a moderate impact on reputation, and/or customer satisfaction. Incumbent follows routine procedures and established guidelines, does not independently make decisions, and performs work under moderate to close supervision. Work under established guidelines and controls including Corporate Social Responsibility Report, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), GAP (Good Agricultural Practices), EPA/WPS (Environmental Protection Agency/Worker's Protection Standards), Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the Oregon Department of Labor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of experience or training. 6+ months of related experience. Able to communicate in Basic English. Punctual and consistent attendance. Able to work extra hours as needed. Ability to understand and follow treatment procedures.
Work Environment:
Majority of work is outdoors with some exposure to extreme weather conditions. Worker will be exposed to cow manure, cow urine, uterine discharges, flies, dust, and odors. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stretch, and/or reach with arms for up to 10 hours. Regularly lift up to 80 pounds. Gently and patiently handle animals.
