Job Description

Description:
Do you love working with plants and being outdoors? Join us as a Display Horticulturist and help shape the beauty of Pittsburgh Botanic Garden! This is a hands-on, creative role where your passion for gardening will shine as you care for gorgeous plant collections, design eye-catching displays, and share your expertise with others. What You'll Do Bring the garden to life by planting, pruning, mulching, and caring for a variety of plants throughout the seasons. Lead and inspire seasonal team members, interns, and volunteers to make our gardens their best. Spot plant health issues early and solve problems using eco-friendly techniques (IPM), including applying fertilizers and treatments as needed. Assist with special events and projects; each day brings something different! Use all kinds of gardening tools and equipment, from pruners to tractors. Pitch in for year-round garden care, including winter snow and ice removal.
Requirements:
What We're Looking For A degree in horticulture (or similar experience/training) and three years working with plants. Botanic garden experience is a plus. Practical knowledge of landscape plants, native Pennsylvania species, tree care, and container gardening. Creative problem solver, strong communicator, and comfortable juggling different tasks. Commitment to the Botanic Garden's mission and a desire to make a difference. Skilled with all types of horticultural equipment—big and small. Ready to get necessary clearances and licenses (PA driver's license, willingness to get a pesticide applicator's license). Able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, lift up to 50 pounds, and handle the unique challenges of garden topography. Rotating weekend work and flexible hours as needed for special events. If you want your daily work to inspire and educate, and you love sharing your passion for plants with others, this could be the perfect fit!
